LIVE FREELY, July 4, 2011 edition of Daily Insight newsletter from Yoga Journal
Generosity is a whole-being practice, and we experience it most deeply when we practice it on several levels simultaneously. On a physical level, we can practice giving away money or time, or volunteering our labor. Mentally, we “do” generosity by cultivating an attitude of offering and a willingness to examine our motives for giving. On an emotional level, we can learn to notice how the impulse to give feels, and how to use imagery and generous thoughts to summon our generous feelings. Energetically, we can notice the tightness that sometimes forms in the heart around giving, and work with breath to help release those contractions.
And through it all, we can be open at the level of spirit to realize our essential interconnectedness. Then, our acts of generosity begin to seem like a natural overflow of our own life force, rather than something special or contrived.

Wonderful Little Travel Companion

I found a fabulous book that is really going to come in handy on my upcoming honeymoon/road trip to Washington DC!

Its called “I Was Here: a travel journal for the curious minded”

I Was Here by Kate Pocrass

It has all kinds of fun, curious tasks for you to complete as you venture throughout the world.. whether it be on vacation, or just in your normal, daily life.

Some examples of the activities inside:

- “purchase a toiletry brand that you don’t recognize. start a collection of this particular type of toiletry..” i.e. toothpaste.

- “look up. draw whatever you see from where you are sitting.”

So this book can either teach you to pay more attention to the little things that you normally miss, or can lead you on a fabulously wild goose chase around a new place you are visiting. Either way, this book is a winner. I recommend with two thumbs up!

Fabric Detailed Escort Cards

I am in the process of planning a wedding so many of my posts for the next four months or so will deal with all things wedding. I apologize—I’ve caught the fever!!

I found this fabulous idea at one of my favorite treasure troves: marthastewartweddings.com

I have been trying to come up with a creative way to do my escort cards & table numbers.. I think I may have come up with it! This project will enable me to use the gorgeous fabric I’ve been wanting to use, as well as give my escort cards & tables some quirky fun touches.

Each guest will have their own escort card that shows a swatch of fabric, along with their name and table number. The swatch of fabric will correspond to the tablecloth or runner on the table they will be seated at during the reception.

These great little cards are just cardstock with a large circle cut out (using a punch), with fabric attached to the inside. I am also going to print the table number itself on the card, just to make it that much easier.

I love the added detail of hand chosen fabrics that really showcase the spirit of the bride & groom. This is a relatively cheap, easy, and completely customizable way to have DIY escort cards!
